Re: copy files

I'm still at work so gotta be quick, a few questions I need to ask to get an ideal picture on what is wrong....

Can it read other discs CD-R's ?
Can you play a DVD movie on the drive?
Can it play music CD's ?
What burning program are you using ?

If you can answer the above and reply back I'll hopefully have a solution for a fix.

Before I head off again, check in your 'Device Manager' and look for the drives, if there is a problem with a drive it will show a yellow question mark by it. Let me know the outcome of that too

Re: copy files

That's a great help, I can say that your drive is working fine. When you burned the files to the disc, did it verify and check that the files were successfully burned ?

I use Nero myself but Vista's own is a good burner so I've been told.

If you have the option, can you try the disc in someone else's computer, this will then verify to us that it's the actual disc that is at fault and not the drive

Re: copy files

Shame that, but I'd suggest you try a different brand. Don't by bulk though just yet, get a single and try that one. If it burns and works ok you then can then buy by bulk.

I also suggest, if you can afford one is an external drive to keep your files on. I have 2 500BG externals myself but do occasionally burn some stuff onto DVD-R's, like photos and personal stuff just in case the external ones misbehave.
