Long Time Computer Problem

For years whenever I load my desk top I get a message that says "Can't Load RES_dll" There is an "OK" button below it. If I click it the message comes right back. I have no idea how I got it and can't seem to get rid of it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jace

most of these messages are aimed towards linksys, if you have a linksys connected to your desktop then you need to un-install it, make sure you have the cd in the drive, reboot it and let it install again if you need it to connect to anything that is.

If not then, un-install everything that has to do with linksys on your desktop

Re: Long Time Computer Problem

Thanks for the help! Here's what I did. I went to my add/remove programs and selected Linkysys since I don't have that router any more. When I click to remove it I get the message: Component: Main App Error: The Parameter is Incorrect

So I figured I'd try removing the program files manually (hope that was right).

In my program files I have a file called "Linksys Wireless-G USB Wireless Network Monitor" I tried deleting this but I get an error. I opened the file and could manually delete all but six files:

ProcNICs.dll, Railinktek.dll, RM_dev_code.dll, Security.dll, WLService, and WUSB54Gv4

When I click to delete any of those I get this message: "Can not delete (file name) Access is Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use"

I looked in my toolbar and I don't see this file in use but then again I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Jace

Re: Long Time Computer Problem

Do you still have the Linksys disc Jace ?

If Yes, then what I normally do is re-install it and then Un-install it, that way it does a complete un-install.

Then perform a registry clean to clear out any dead files and values that may have got left behind.

I highly recommend Glary Utilities for un-installing stuff as it has a neat way of removing any folder(s) that can get left behind .

If you don't have Glary Utilities you can download it from my 'Treasure Chest' section. I'm pretty sure the Free Edition has this un-install option, if it doesn't let me know and I can make sure it does in the future.

So, if the Free edition gives you the option click on 'Modules' then 'Clean Up & Repair' then open the 'uninstall manager'

Click on the program which you want to un-install, this will then bring up the programs un-install wizard. Continue with options it gives you, once it finishes you will see a box appear like this....

Image

Click 'Delete All' and everything to do with that program will be deleted from your computer, so now you don't have to worry about folders you don't need clogging up your 'program files' folder

OR

There is another program you can use to get rid of stubborn files that are left after an un-install and it's called....

Unlocker

Link: Unlocker Website

It shows you a complete step-by-step guide on the webpage on how it works on best of all......IT'S FREE !!

Wiz, you are the best! I downloaded the "Unlocker Assistant" and it did the job! No more error message!

Thank you so much!

Nice one Jace, as I say to people, you don't untill you ask. Glad it's all done now, if in your in any doubt about anything else, feel free to ask me.

It's one of the main reasons I set up this board for. No question will be unanswered or ignored no matter how trivial it may be.

Again, well done on getting it sorted emoticon
