Re: Vista Permissions

Could be the UAC that maybe causing this message, try temporarily disabling it then try to install again.

MAKE SURE YOU ENABLE IT AGAIN if it doesn't work though

To disable UAC....

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. In Control Panel, click User Accounts And Family Safety.

3. Click User Accounts.

4. Click Turn User Account Control On Or Off.

5. Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) To Help Protect Your Computer checkbox, and then click OK.

6. When prompted, restart your computer.

Re: Vista Permissions

I'm not sure I am going to get an answer to this as I have been on the Microsoft help pages for most of the day and there are a lot of Vista users having the same problem. Microsoft says that when Vista is installed a separate user is created that you can't get at, for security reasons Microsoft says.

Re: Vista Permissions

I think it involves digging around more of the registry, I'm good, but not that good CD, but some of the registry settings I'm not familiar with and I won't go in there either emoticon

Re: Vista Permissions

I tried the link and the iPod service was already stopped and I couldn't start it even if I wanted to because access was denied. While I was in the task manager though I did notice that there was only one user name there and it wasn't the Administrator. Is there a way of logging on?

Re: Vista Permissions

No dice Wizard. Fortunately I have been able to register my new toy through my wife's computer which has XP on it. I'm half way there now. Thanks for all your help. At least I have learned a few things. The biggest thing being that I hate Vista.

Re: Vista Permissions

At least now you got 1 paddle in the water, this has been a difficult one to solve but at least you got XP as backup.

Sorry I wasn't able to sort this one out for you CD emoticon

Re: Vista Permissions

Not your fault Wizard. Even Microsoft either wouldn't or couldn't help.
