Ashampoo Magical Defrag

This programs function is to make sure that thee files and programs stored on your computer are arranged so that Windows can load them quickly as possible, and as the operating system is constantly reading information from the hard disk, this has the effect of speeding up almost everything you do with the computer.

Every time you delete a file or remove a program, the space it used to occupy on the disk is vacated. Files saved subsequently are slotted into the free spaces, and if they don't fit exactly (which they usually don't), they're chopped up and spread over several spaces.

These file fragments take longer to load than a single file in one location, and what any defragmentation utility aims to do is gather up all the fragments and reassemble them, so that every file is in one place rather than being split up.

When you're using the PC, Magical Defrag keeps out of the way, using virtually none of the computer's resources, but as soon as you stop working it leaps into action, defragmenting your disk until you start working again.

Once it has been set up you can literally forget about Magical Defrag. In fact the most onerous thing about the application is registering it for use.

INSTALLING THE PROGRAM AND REGISTRATION

Double-click on the installation file, follow the onscreen instructions and look out for the window that contains the option marked Get full version key, when you see this, make sure the box is ticked. This will open a new browser window and a dialogue box. Leave the dialogue box untouched for now.

Enter your email address in the browser window where prompted and click on send. An email will arrive shortly after, and when it does click on the link it contains (or copy and paste it into the Address Bar of your browser.

In the resulting website, fill in your details and press Send. The free registration password will now be emailed to you, copy it from the email, then return to the dialogue box that opened when you installed the application.

An icon in the Notification area of windows Taskbar (icons by the clock) shows the status of Magical Defrag, Working, Paused, Disabled, in error or 'nothing to do'. To set preferences for Magical Defrag double-click on this icon to open the information screen, and then click on the Options menu and select Settings.

In the settings dialogue box there are ticks against the disks selected for defragmentation. Click on any tick to remove it and click again to reselect the disk. Should you ever wish to temporarily disable Magical Defrag (perhaps while installing other programs or running performance tests), click on the Stop Service button. Use the Start Service button to restart the program or simply wait for it to be reloaded the next time you start windows.

I am hosting the file on my server, The file is compressed using WinZip. Click the link below and when the window prompt appears select Save and store it on your desktop for easy retrieval or a folder if you have made one for new programs.

Download It

Re: Ashampoo Magical Defrag

Works great! I've been using it for a few months. Every once in awhile I try to run a defrag with the Windows program, sends a flag that it doesn't need defraging at this time!

Thanks again Wiz!!

Hi Hntr, look time no see emoticon

Thanks for posting, I still use mine and it sits in the system tray working away quietly and keeping my drive nice and tidy. Personally I always leave mine on. It hardly uses any resources at all, a great FREE program all round.
