Golden Rules to avoid ID theft

1. Do not give personal details to anyone who asks, make sure you know who you are dealing with

2. Use a Cross-Cut shredder on any personal documents such as bills and statements that you throw away. In fact anything that comes through my letterbox like Junk Mail etc with my name and address on which I don't need, I ALWAYS shred it and recycle the rest of it.

3. Use a credit checking agency such as Experian to keep an eye on credit card and loan transactions, if you don't recognise some, they may have been made by a fraudster. Check bank statements and credit card bills too.

4. Don't let credit cards out of your site when you are making a transaction. If you are in a restaurant and pay by credit card, go with the waiter/waitress to the counter to keep and eye on your card, I always do so I know where my card is all the time.

5. If you move house, let Banks, Building Societies and the like know your change of address, and always use the Post Office's Mail Direction Service.

6. If post, especially bills and statements goes missing, be suspicious and follow it up.

7. If you recieve an email from your bank or building society with a link to update your details, NEVER, NEVER click on the link, it's always best to either ring the bank/building society and ask if they need new details etc

Re: Golden Rules to avoid ID theft

Use to sell ID theft for one major credit card. Most say it was family or a close friend that did the deed. Thanks for this Wizard.
