Although that button may seem frustrating at times, it actually has one nice benefit, You get to control what happens when you press that power button. Hibernation mode is a power-saving mode that conserves battery, but allows for a quicker resumption of operation than by fully turning the computer off and then back on. When hibernation mode is activated, all current applications running in memory are saved to your disk, and the computer is turned off. When resuming full operation, by pressing a button or clicking the mouse, the applications are read from disk and appear in the same state as before. You may hear from people that using this mode puts strain on your Hard drive, but most hard drives today in laptops simply turn off or 'Go to sleep' without putting any strain on them. I personally don't like the hibernation option as it can cause problems restarting your Laptop or desktop even so I always turn off my computer if I am going to away from it for +4hrs or more, it also takes the strain off your built in fan. It may take a little longer to restart if you turn OFF your computer/laptop but keeping control of what starts up makes it worth while. Hibernation Mode Instructions 1. Click, Start then choose the Control Panel. 2. Open the Power Options icon. 3. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, look for and click the Advanced tab. On the bottom part of the Advanced tab, you can find a roped-off section called Power Buttons 4. From the drop-down list under When I Press the Power Button on My Computer, choose an option. You have 5 Options to choose from... 1. Do nothing This option disables the power button, and you can't use the button for turning off the laptop. If you choose this option, you have to use the Start button's Turn Off Computer command to turn off your laptop. 2. Ask me what to do In this case, pressing the power button displays the Turn Off Computer message. You choose what you want the laptop to do from that menu. 3. Stand by The computer goes into Stand By mode. 4. Hibernate The computer goes into Hibernation mode. 5. Shut down The computer shuts down Windows and then turns itself off. You can choose and assign any of these items to the power button. For example, if you want the laptop to hibernate whenever you press the power button, assign that option to the power button's function. 5. Click the OK button to set the option. By clicking OK, you change (or confirm) the power button's function. 6. Close the Control Panel. The change that you enact by using the preceding steps doesn't affect the power button's duties for turning on or waking up the computer. Note that you may not be able to use all of the options listed in this section. It all depends on your laptop's design and whether the manufacturer has enabled certain functions.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Wizard3)Sat, 06 Jan 2007 23:52:04 +0000
